Aurelian

“Aurelian”, a collector of butterflies: a role that mirrors the whimsical nature of human connection at Fair. Aurelian harbors a lively environment where fair goers can seek respite from the sun, and wonder at dynamic patterns of light and shadow that filter through lattice work. The nighttime experience: multi-colored LEDs come to life, through immersion to visually captivate viewers - as flowers allure pollinators to their colorful displays.

Aurelian is a wooden sculpture with a footprint of 17’ x 17’ and a height of 11’. This installation is made by leveraging technologies of active wood bending, computational design and digital fabrication to create a novel and organic thin shell structure. The installation is made of catenary geometry, inspired by architects like Antoni Gaudi and Felix Candela.

The intention of this space is to emphasize the relationship between humans and their environment as a symbiosis of curiosity, connectivity and the human experience.
